El 15 de marzo de 1829 un grupo de inmigrantes escoceses celebraron el culto de fundación de la Iglesia Presbiteriana de San Andrés en Argentina. El 25 de abril de 1835, inauguraron el templo en la calle Piedras al 55 que fue el centro de difusión y servicio más importante. Por la construcción de avenida De Mayo debieron trasladarse a su actual ubicación en la avenida Belgrano.

A finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX la Iglesia Presbiteriana comenzó con un período de expansión que provocó la fundación de nuevos templos. En 1908 se inauguró un salón en el barrio de Belgrano, nombrado “Dr. Smith Memorial” en reconocimiento a la acción desplegada entre los fieles de la ciudad y la provincia por el pastor James Smith. El templo fue consagrado en 1926.
